Although email marketing is largely focussed on exactly that – email, it is important to look at how you are actually capturing emails. Having a poorly optimised theme can affect signups, no matter what service you use. So what should you look for in a WordPress theme for email marketing? Well, ideally you want a couple of landing page templates, with a strong call to action to your email signup box. Furthermore, you want to make sure that your theme is compatible with your email provider, as well as make it expandable. You want as few surprises as possible going forward.

You want a light theme, to prevent code bloat, and conforming to WordPress’ coding standards. Here are a few themes we’ve seen recently that we think good be good starting points for your email marketing in 2017.

Top Pick – Founder

Founder is an incredibly pretty Email Marketing WordPress Theme that has exactly what you need. It’s compatible with WP Email Capture (I’ve tested it so I know!), but also works with Mailchimp and allows videos or images with big bold headers. Internal pages have an interactive header which is conversion focussed, and compatible with Jetpack and Easy Digital Downloads as well. With the right images, Founder can really help you grow your list.

Second Place – EmailSender

Again, EmailSender has a very large header with a striking design and clear call to actions on the home page. EmailSender from Inkthemes has a great look, with easy colour themes to use. It could be useful for those who are keen to start an email marketing blog, with service page builder, as well as widgetised areas which you can include the call to actions. The only slight concern is the home page can look a bit cluttered and long, and I’m not quite convinced on the call to actions on the home page, but it is very pretty.

Third Place – Launchkit

Third place on my top themes for Email Marketing for me is Launchkit. This is a multi purpose theme has an incredible look, with clear font, large conversion areas and is compatible with Gravity Forms. Design wise it is gorgeous. My only concerns with the theme are that if you use this theme it’s multi purpose so hasn’t got a main site design.  Furthermore, the theme uses Visual Composer, which can cause problems if you ever change your theme. I’d also like to see more compatibility beyond Contact Form 7 and Gravity Forms.
